This line originates from specimens collected by myself, Daniel Parker, and Anthony Flanagan in 2010.
The founder male to this line is a beautiful 5'6" wide-banded specimen I spotted crossing the road a few hundred feet ahead while walking in between spots. He has an unusual disjointed chain pattern, and brown and yellow coloration reminiscent of a Florida king. At first glance he resembled an eastern diamondback rattlesnake crossing the road, but we were more than happy that he ended up being such an impressive kingsnake. It was one of those surreal moments where you almost can't believe what you're finding!
While the basic identity of these snakes is the eastern kingsnake, these seem to show traces of Florida king influence in that some come out with higher bandcounts than once expects from an eastern king, and many have the staggered side blotches and dorsal bands typical of the Florida king. Of course others show the same unusual pattern as the founder male. Some examples are black and white, with others are brown and yellow. A few even show a modest amount of speckling. Whether these show floridana influence or not, they are a unique group of easterns from the area that separates floridana from goini/meansi, and we expect interesting results from breeding this line down the road.
We have produced these 2 years in a row and look forward to producing second generation offspring in 2013!
